Bike racks are great things to have on vehicles if you plan to do a lot of traveling and want to take your bikes with you. Follow these steps to buy the best bike rack for your car.

• Check out your car – Before knowing what kinds of bike racks will work best on your car, you might want to check out your own car to see if you have things like rain gutters on the roof or a trailer hitch on the rear. Remember this for later.

• Size the car up – If you have a very large car, think about how difficult it might be to lift up or bring down the bike from the rack. You also should think about how many bikes you will want to put on these bike racks. If you have more than two, you may need to do some special modifications to the bike racks.

• Most bike racks can be purchased at local bike stores or even at a number of big box stores. At the store, you can look for bike racks that will fit into rain gutters or bike racks that will fit onto trailer hitches as well.

• Make sure that the bike racks not only look good, but also that they feel sturdy enough to be able to support the bikes on long trips. If you have bikes which have front wheels that are removable, it could be a little easier to transport the bikes.
