Bike Parts

Often the bike parts in bicycles that are of the cheaper variety are not as high quality as you would hope. Here are some of the things that might be wrong with bike parts in cheap bikes:

• Brakes – Often brakes do not fit like they should because they are poorly designed. These bike parts are hard to adjust if they never fit properly in the first place. Brakes that are made of thin steel that flexes will not be able to provide adequate pressure to slow down properly.

• Wheels – Sometimes the wheels that look nice and shiny might be dangerous to you. This is true because shiny wheels are made of chrome-plated steel, which is slippery. When these rims get even a little bit wet, it is almost like having no brakes at all.

You would be best off getting a bike with bike parts like aluminum rear wheel rims. These are usually recognizable by their duller finish, but if you are unsure, simply take a magnet with you to check.
These aluminum rims not only stop better, but they also roll better. That makes these bike parts much lighter than steel rims. This cuts down on the inertia and allows the rims to stop easier.
• Seats – If you plan to spend a lot of time on a bike, these bike parts are definitely important. Some people prefer a firmer seat, while others prefer a seat that is padded. If you buy a bike for $150, chances are that the seat you are getting is not going to be very comfortable. In fact, some of the nice seats can cost as much as some cheap bikes do.

Brakes, wheels and seats are three of the most important bike parts that might get you to invest in a nicer bike.
