Bike Helmets
Buying proper bike helmets is important because they protect
your head. Even if the injury does not take your life, a head injury
could mean a lifetime of suffering. To make sure you get the best bike
helmets, do the following:
• Find a helmet and look inside. Although the exterior of the
helmet should be aesthetically pleasing to you, this is certainly not
the most important part. Inside the helmet you should be able to locate
a sticker from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. If the helmet
is older and does not have this sticker, choose another one. The sticker
verifies that the helmet is a safe one to wear and should be able to
protect your head.
• Try a few bike helmets on. After you have located a few helmets
that have stickers and that look nice to you, try one on and adjust
the strap to fit snuggly under your chin. Shake your head around to
make sure that the helmet does not move around. If it does and the straps
are comfortably tight, then you should look for a different size.
• When you think you have found bike helmets of the right size,
push up on the front of the helmet with one finger. The helmet should
lift, but should not slide too easily off of your forehead. Also see
if you can unbuckle the chin strap with one hand.
Typically the bike helmets that fit best and that allow you to unhitch
with one hand are best.
