Bike Accesories
There are many children who are injured each year thanks
to the fact that they do not have the proper bike accessories when riding
their bikes. Doing a couple of simple things could do a lot to help
kids be safer.
• Use helmets – Not only are helmets great
bike accessories to have in order to reduce the risk of injury to a
child, but in most places it is the law that a child must wear a helmet
while riding on his or her bike. Unfortunately, you can never tell when
something tragic might happen, but bike accessories like helmets are
very likely to seriously reduce the risk of serious injury.
• Reflectors – Reflectors on bikes are
important in the evening because they allow the cars to see that there
is a bike in the immediate vicinity. Traditional reflectors have been
found to work decent, but not great. Newer battery-powered reflectors
are more beneficial at attracting attention because the light they reflect
is brighter and more visible.
• Handlebar pad – If your child is the
type who likes to push the limits while on his bike, then you might
want to seriously consider using a handlebar pad for his bike. These
bike accessories are non-obtrusive and simply go around the metal of
the handlebar. If a child were to wreck or flip over the handlebars,
the pad would greatly reduce the shock and risk of injury to the child.
Any of these bike accessories are important to have and it is recommended
that all children have each of these accessories.
